Planned Giving

Create a legacy through planned giving.

By making a planned charitable gift to NEF, you are ensuring that we can continue our mission for years to come; even after your lifetime.

A variety of planned giving vehicles are available to those who wish to provide for the future benefit of our community and create a lasting legacy. Planned giving is an arrangement for a future donation to be made to NEF to support our mission for years to come.

Determining what type of gift is right for you is just as important as making the gift. The correct plan for you balances what you wish to accomplish for yourself, your family, and your charitable interests in your overall estate and financial plans.

Below is a listing of typical planned giving strategies:

  • Direct Bequests

    By making a bequest in your estate plan naming NEF as the recipient of a testamentary gift, a percentage of one’s estate or a specific amount at your death will go to NEF. NEF will be happy to provide sample bequest language upon request.

  • Life Insurance Policies

    Make an outright gift of an existing policy or establish a new policy for NEF’s benefit.

  • Charitable Lead Trust

    Make an outright gift of an existing policy or establish a new policy for NEF’s benefit.

  • Qualified Charitable Distributions

    By taking advantage of the Qualified Charitable Distribution, you don’t have to pay income taxes on distributions from tax-deferred retirement accounts such as a 401k, 403b or IRA by directly transferring the money to NEF. The transfer generates neither taxable income nor a tax deduction, so you benefit even if you do not itemize your deductions.

  • Asset Beneficiary Designations

    Name NEF as a full or partial beneficiary to receive assets such as retirement plans (401k, 403b, IRA, etc.) life insurance policies, annuities, bank accounts, certificates of deposits or brokerage accounts upon your death.

  • Charitable Remainder Trust

    A charitable remainder trust is an irrevocable trust that pays you during your lifetime. The remainder is paid to NEF upon your death.

  • Memorials, Tributes, Scholarships and Endowments

    If you have a loved one who has been impacted by Naperville School District 203 or NEF, establishing a memorial or tribute gift is a meaningful way to honor them for years to come. Your memorial or tribute gift will be a lasting tribute to your loved one and make a difference in the lives of those we serve. If there is a specific program, area of interest or scholarship that you would like to fund, we will be grateful to create a unique program with you.

  • Gifts of Appreciated Stock

    The donation of appreciated securities can offer attractive income tax benefits. Rather than selling the appreciated security outright and incurring the capital gains tax liability, you can donate the security, not pay the capital gains taxes, and receive a tax deduction on the value of the donated security. These donor benefits make the after-tax cost of a gift of long-term marketable securities more attractive than a cash gift.

  • Communication of Your Gift to the Naperville Education Foundation

    NEF would appreciate knowledge of your future gift for recognition and long-term planning purposes. Any public acknowledgment of your gift will require your pre-authorization. NEF also gratefully accepts anonymous gifts.

  • The Naperville Education Foundation Legacy Society

    The Naperville Education Foundation Legacy Society provides a meaningful way for us to recognize the generosity of those who have made planned gift commitments to benefit NEF. Our role is to receive, administer and provide ongoing stewardship of your planned gift to ensure that your intentions are honored.
