The Naperville Education Foundation (NEF) provides funding to assist at-risk students in Naperville School District 203 through its Kid Booster Anonymous Fund.
The purpose of the Kid Booster Fund is to provide assistance by matching specific and unique needs of District 203 students to opportunities and support which enhance educational, physical, or socio-emotional growth.
The intent of the Kid Booster Fund is to provide a timely response and the “missing link” under circumstances where there is no known family, district, or community system or structure to address the need. This important fund provides assistance in many areas of curriculum and support services.
In March 2020, NEF created the Kid Booster Crisis Fund, an emergency fund providing immediate access to financial assistance for students and families in need. This fund is a part of the Kid Booster Anonymous Fund.
The Kid Booster Crisis Fund helps students that have been impacted by COVID-19. Possible use of funding includes:
-Financial support related to housing
– Meals for weekends and evenings
– Transportation needs
The crisis fund directly helps our most at-risk students, including the 15% of Naperville 203’s 16,500 students who qualify for free and reduced lunch and the 1% of our students who are homeless. These are the families in our community who are most vulnerable to the overall impact of this virus.
Examples of recent Kid Booster support include:
- Funds for psychiatric services for an extremely at-risk student whose parents are unemployed.
- Provision of a minivan with chair lift allowing a physically challenged student to attend an outdoor education program.
- Provision of
voice activatedcomputers for two physically challenged students.
